GLP-1 medications are a window — not a solution.

For many, it’s the first time food has felt quieter, calmer, and more manageable. That alone is powerful. You may feel:

  •  Less intrusive food noise
  •  Fewer urges to overeat
  •  More space between you and your usual patterns

And that space is everything. It gives you a rare opportunity to do something different.

But without the right support...

This window often gets missed. Many people experience:

  •  Eating less, but failing to build structure
  •  Losing weight, but gaining unhealthy habits
  •  Relying on low appetite without learning how to regulate when it returns
  •  Still feeling pulled towards emotional eating — even when not physically hungry

Zero judgement. Only informed, compassionate support.

There’s a lot of stigma around GLP-1s. Some call it “the easy way.” Others prescribe it without considering how to support clients long-term.

If GLP-1s were available back when I was deep in emotional eating and binge eating, I would have taken them too.

I took illegal fat burners. I bought diet pills. I believed gastric bypass might be my only option to stop overeating. I understand the desperation to feel in control around food and the desire to feel at peace in your body.

There are two types of GLP-1 users.

As a trained emotional eating specialist, here is what I see constantly.

The Relying User

Eats less due to lower appetite, but patterns remain unchanged. When appetite returns, the challenges flood back:

  •  Emotional eating resurfaces
  •  Old habits take over
  •  Cravings feel stronger & hunger unsettling
Without new tools, weight often rebounds. Not because of failure, but because the drug only changes appetite, not the behavioral drivers underneath.

The Evolving User

Uses the appetite reduction as a boost — a window of breathing room to make meaningful lifestyle changes. They begin to:

  •  Eat more nourishing, balanced meals
  •  Build emotional coping skills
  •  Reconnect with body signals
Because they address the root causes alongside the medication, they create results that feel steady, confident, and long-term.

The part no one tells you about: the real risks.

I am trained to support people with their eating while they’re on GLP-1 medication. My work is rooted in psychology and coaching as an emotional eating specialist, combined with my background as a health professional.

I understand how these medications impact metabolism, why muscle loss occurs, what emotional patterns resurface, and how to rebuild trust with hunger cues.

What you are not being told clearly enough:

  1. Rapid muscle loss is a very real danger
  2. Nutritional deficiencies are common
  3. Bone density loss is a long-term risk
  4. Most providers don’t support tapering off
  5. Access to GLP-1s can change anytime

When you stop, hunger signals return. But now you’re at a disadvantage: smaller body needing less fuel, less muscle, slower metabolism. This combination is why rebound weight gain is so common without foundational change.
